A marriage broke up recently after a wife decided that she could no longer stay with her husband because he voted for President Donald Trump.

Gayle McCormick, a retired California prison guard, left her husband of 22 years, reports the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

McCormick claimed that her husband announced over lunch one day last year that he planned to support Trump. McCormick, who calls herself a “Democrat leaning toward socialist,” said the announcement was a “deal-breaker.”

“It totally undid me that he could vote for Trump,” said McCormick. “I felt like I had been fooling myself. It opened up areas between us I had not faced before. I realized how far I had gone in my life to accept things I would have never accepted when I was younger.”

McCormick maintained that she never considered leaving her husband before the announcement.

Others have reported relationship troubles after the 2016 election. A Reuters/Ipsos poll for Dec. 27-Jan. 18 reveals that 16 percent of people had dropped communication with friends or family because of the election.

“It’s been pretty rough for me,” said Rob Brunello, a Trump supporter. “People couldn’t believe Trump could beat Hillary. They are having a hard time adjusting to it.”

People also came out after Trump’s election to claim that they had lost their sex drives because he won the presidency. A New York Magazine article claimed that the author’s libido was a “casualty” of the election.

“I’ve never been less horny in my post-puberty life than I was the week after Donald Trump won the presidency. Like most progressive people, I felt a lot of things that week: sorrow, terror, rage, disbelief, hopelessness,” the article stated.

Others also claimed to be affected by this issue.

“I’ve had sex once since the election. But I kicked the guy out immediately. I just … can’t right now. The election soured men for me more than they already were,” another person claimed in the article.
